Meet Your Author

First I was a reader. Then I studied literature for what felt like forever. Then I taught writing. And published a small press literary magazine. All while scribbling away at my own work.

When 2020 hit us all, I decided to try my luck at self-publishing. Being an indie author has been the hardest job I’ve ever had, and also the best.

Whether you call it romantasy, romantic fantasy or fantasy romance, I adore writing stories in magical worlds, with plenty of adventure, lots of feels, and a heavy-handed sprinkle of spice.

Thank you to my readers for making me an author.

xoxo,

ACW

Hi. I’m Allison

 FAQs

  • I primarily write adult fantasy romance. However, nearly all of my series fall into the category of “science fantasy,” meaning that there are some sci-fi elements in them.

This means you are likely to find hints of modern and futuristic technology in all of my stories. Some series feature this more prominently than others.

  • All of my books are only appropriate for an 18+ audience, regardless of whether or not there is on the page sex.

  • Yes, but in varying degrees! I now write mostly open door sex scenes. The degree to which they are explicit varies by series.

Why? I don’t have a solid answer for this other than that I write the book and the characters as they ask to be represented.

The only series I’ve written that does not have open door scenes is Outlaws. This is primarily because it was originally written for an upper YA audience. There is some steam, it’s VERY sex positive, but even in the new editions, to respect my original readership, I am keeping the sex fade to black.

If you are looking for a spicy sapphic novel, I’ve got two in the pipeline! Stay tuned.

  • That is not an option that Amazon currently makes available for self-published authors. Yes, there is a workaround that some authors use with Ingram Spark; however, we’ve seen a lot of issues (like canceled pre-orders on ebooks) as a result of using this workaround. For simplicity’s sake, all paperbacks are made available with the built-in capability that each specific retailer allows.

  • The majority of my books are currently contracted to have audio at some point in the future. However, this depends largely on sales performance for my other books.

  • I am able to give a limited amount of influencer copies of my books out each quarter. Please see my Contact page for more information.

  • I never pay for reviews.

I also do not currently work with influencers for individual paid promo. The reason for this is that in bookish spaces the ROI for paying individual influencers for promo has gotten extremely low. Big publishers can afford to work with influencers in this way, I cannot.

I work with several book tour companies to coordinate tours, as well as having spots open a few times a year for my own promo teams.

If you love my books, the best way to get them for free is to join one of my teams.

  • I do not! Readers have made it very clear that they would like authors to stay out of review spaces and so I abide by that!

  • All of my books go through several editing phases, which are: alpha critique (my critique partners/sometimes a dev edit), beta readers (reader-responses), copyedits, proofreading. Some books get sensitivity reads as well.
